A-Maze-N-Cane

About

A winding maze in a 9 acre cane field located in Nashville Georgia. Open in October and November every Friday 5:00-10:00 and Saturday 3:00-10:00. Tickets are $5 per person.

Description
A South Georgia Farmer who has been growing cane all his life decided to clear a winding maze of paths full of turns and dead ends in his 9 acre field and it has become very popular for all ages. This lush field of cane grows up to 20 feet and stays green until the first hard frost. It creates a nice shady maze that can be relaxing by day as you listen to the wind bristling through the cane. It... also becomes a true adventure especially at night with your flashlight or just by moonlight. Inside the maze is natural "palnetarium" a cleared circular space just for star gazing although the kids loved climbing the stacked round hay bales by day. After you make it through the maze which usually takes 15-20 minutes there is much more to do. Marshmallow roasting, cane chewing, cane juice tasting, farm animals, corn hole games and our very popular kids obstacle course. The newest addition in 2012 was our 2 zip lines. This quickly became a crowd favorite. We also added mini Field called Kids dig it so your little one can dig in the dirt and play with dump tucks and tractors untill their heart is content! Prepare to get dirty!! We also have cold drink, chips and candy at the Sugar Shack! Admission is $5 per person and includes all activities. Special hours and rates available for groups. Call 229-686-3458 to schedule.

We encourage visitors to bring their own flashlights although we provide them they are first come first serve.

We are located 5 miles South of Nashville and 15 miles North of Valdosta. If driving from Valdosta turn off of Bemiss Road onto Cat Creek Road. Cat Creek Road turns into Old valdosta Hwy and we are on the right.

Walk for Apraxia, Saturday, September 28 at 9:30

SEPTEMBER WALK WILL RAISE AWARENESS FOR CHILDREN WITH APRAXIA

Valdosta Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech
VALDOSTA, GA– (AUGUST 28, 2013) – Amber Seigler of Lakeland is coordinating the “Aaron’s Voice” Southern Georgia Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech event on Saturday, September 28 at Valdosta Middle School.  Ms. Seigler has planned the walk to honor her son Aaron, who has apraxia. To date, over $2,000 has been raised.  All proceeds will benefit important apraxia programs and research of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA).

Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a very challenging and complicated neurological speech disorder in children.  This little known disorder makes it difficult or impossible for children to accurately produce sounds, syllables, and/or words despite having a good understanding of language.  The Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech® is held as a means to heighten awareness and funding.

“After many late nights spent researching online, our son’s speech therapist first mentioned the word 'Apraxia' and how our son could possibly have it. While researching “Apraxia,” Grandma found CASANA’s web page which helped us learn so much about it.  While our goal to raise funds for apraxia programs and research and raise apraxia awareness, most of all, we just hope we can have lots of fun and make some new friends,” says Ms. Seigler.

The Southern Georgia Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech is open to all adults and children.  On-site registration and check-in on September 28th begins at 9:30 AM, with children’s activities at 10:00 AM and the Walk starting at 11:00 AM.  Anyone interested in registering, making a donation, or learning more about the event can contact tigers03813@hotmail.com or visit the event website at http://secure.apraxia-kids.org/southerngawalk.

About CASANA

The Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA), based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and founded in 2000, is the only national 501(c)3 non-profit public charity exclusively dedicated to the needs and interests of children with apraxia of speech and their families. CASANA’s mission is to improve the systems of support in the lives of children with apraxia so that each child is afforded their best opportunity to develop speech.  CASANA supports this mission by promoting awareness through Walks held all over North America; providing high quality information and support through the Apraxia-KIDS website and online communities; conducting multiple educational events; and funding apraxia research.  For more information on CASANA and Childhood Apraxia of Speech, visit the Apraxia-KIDS website at http://www.apraxia-kids.org.

Spa-tastic Shindig, Birthday Party Ideas

Would your little girl or tween like to be pampered for her birthday?? How about entertaining several girls at a slumber party?? With Spa-tastic Shindigs, we handle it all!! Mini-mani's, mini-pedi's, facials and MORE!!

New MOPS group coming to Valdosta, Trinity Presbyterian.

Dear young mothers of children 5 and under,

If you are a stay at home mother I highly recommend getting involved in a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group.  Luckily it appears that our area has several to choose from.  10 years ago when my first child was an infant, I was a stay at home mom, struggling in more ways than one.  I joined a MOPS group and it changed my life.  I actually have several friends that have remained dear friends to me from those early days of infancy, toddler & preschool years!  Another life saver in those early days for me was MMO (Mothers Morning Out, and luckily several churches in our area offer those as well - just check the left hand tab!)

I wish this new MOPS group the best!

Trinity Presbyterian. We meet the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month from 9am-11am. For more information they can contact the church. The number is (229) 242-3468 and the address is 3501 Bemiss Rd, Valdosta, GA 31605. Our first meeting is this Friday, September 6.

The South Georgia String Project at VSU

The South Georgia String Project at Valdosta State University
Lauren Burns, Lecturer in Viola The South Georgia String Project, led by Director and Master Teacher Lauren Burns, is a joint venture of the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and the Department of Music at Valdosta State University. The South Georgia String Project serves a dual purpose: first to provide an after-school music program where children can easily access low-cost stringed instrument instruction, and second to provide valuable, mentored teaching experience for music students at Valdosta State University.
We offer carefully structured techniques classes, private lessons, and four levels of group classes. Exemplary music students from the university, supervised by experienced teachers, assist in instruction at all levels. Our beginning students use a modified Suzuki approach incorporating the Essential Elements for Strings method book. The Concert Strings and Allegro Strings group classes offer opportunities for intermediate levels. Our most advanced level is the Valdosta Symphony Youth Orchestra, a full orchestra that includes musicians from the community as well as Valdosta State University music students.
The South Georgia String Project encourages the enjoyment of music and self-expression through the study of a musical instrument, and actively seeks to provide opportunities for student leadership, parental participation, and involvement with the greater community. We give several performances each year, including two end-of-semester concerts, outreach performances at local schools and libraries, and the annual Tunes for Tots event with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra.
Our Mission
  • Providing public school-age children opportunities to learn to play stringed instruments
  • Supporting music-making opportunities for string students and teachers in order to facilitate the growth of area public school string and orchestra programs
  • Offering undergraduate and graduate music students vital teaching, administrative, and leadership positions in a supervised environment as they continue with their professional training

SGSP is a low-cost after-school string music program for children ages (8 to adult) that incorporates both group and private lessons taught by VSU music faculty and students, as well as mentoring by VSU music students

See website for more information including registration and financial aid forms.
